Why We Build Tools on a Whim: The Story of a Fickle Little Studio
"Fickle" means quick to change your mind. That is a fair description of us. One week we are deep into cross stitch, the next we are printing math practice for a kid, then we fall down a rabbit hole about color. ficklestudio26 is a small independent studio in South Korea, and this is how we work.
The idea: build a tool whenever something grabs us
Every time a new interest takes over, we build a small tool for it. Most of them stay small. The ones that turn out genuinely useful go on the shelf for everyone. The site has four shelves: Make, Learn, Play and Everyday.
- Make: the Cross Stitch Pattern Maker, the Color Palette Generator, a contrast checker and a DMC color chart.
- Learn: the Math Worksheet Generator, with grade-by-grade guides for parents and teachers.
- Everyday: the Password Generator, a passphrase generator and a strength checker.
- Play: small browser games are next on the workbench.
We also make apps: Haul, a grocery list app for Android, and a free Mac widget that shows your Claude usage.
What stays the same, whatever we build
- Free to use, no account. You open a tool and get a result in seconds.
- Correct before clever. The answer keys on our math worksheets are checked by an automated test that re-solves over 100,000 generated problems, and the thread colors in the cross stitch tool are matched with perceptual color matching.
- Private by default. Passwords never leave your device. Photos are reduced to a small grid of colors before anything is processed. Nothing you create is stored.
- Explained, not just generated. Each tool comes with plain-language guides, so you know what the settings do and why.
How we keep it free
The site is supported by advertising. A couple of tools also offer optional passes, for one download or 24 hours, bought for that tool only, that add extras for people who use it a lot. They are one-time purchases, never subscriptions. How passes work.
