How to Make a Printable School Year Calendar (August to July)
A school year does not follow the January to December calendar. It usually starts in August or September and ends in May or June, so a normal wall calendar runs out right in the middle of the year. Here is how to make a calendar that matches the school year, in a few steps and for free.
Make a school year calendar in four steps
- Open the Printable Calendar Maker.
- Set the year to the year the school year starts, for example 2027.
- Set Start month to August (or September, or whichever month your school starts). You now get 12 months in a row: August 2027 to July 2028.
- Choose Letter or A4, Sunday or Monday start, and print it or save it as a PDF.
Which layout works best
- 12 monthly pages with notes lines are the best choice for a teacher's planner, a family fridge calendar or a binder. One month fills one page and there is room to write.
- Year on one page is better for a wall, a bulletin board or the front of a binder, where you want to see the whole school year at a glance.
Handy options
- Monday start with week numbers helps with term plans and lesson sequences, because you can refer to "week 12" instead of a date.
- US federal holidays can be marked so you can see the long weekends that fall inside the school year. Your own school's breaks will differ, so write those in by hand.
- Language can be switched, so a language class or an international family can print month and day names in their own language.
Also works for other year types
The same steps make a fiscal year (for example starting in October or April), a sports season, or a project year that starts in the middle of a calendar year. Choose the start month and the calendar follows.
